Yes We Khan!

Old School Friday is here again. Time to put aside our differences, take a stress break from the politics and politricks of the day, and jam to some music.

Today I am especially excited that the OSF theme is a highlight of one of my all-time favorite female vocalists (and someone with whom I share a name), Chaka Khan!

It was hard, but I have limited myself to three Rufus/Chaka tunes. The first is actually a remake by another artist, “Stay” by Erykah Badu. Next up is the very funky “You Got the Love.” And finally, a collabo with another one of my favorite female artists, Me’Shell Ndegeocello, “Never Miss the Water.” Three wonderful women doing their thing!

I have had the pleasure of seeing Ms. Khan perform twice. The first time was with Cameo on the green lawn of Boston Common—waayyy back in the day. The second time was when she was touring with Prince.

The first concert was…less than stellar. I believe Chaka was extremely tired (or, as gossip at the time assumed, extremely high), and she had to be redirected by her band members several times to locate the mic. But she more than made up for that performance in my mind by her performance more than a decade later with Prince.

The woman is just getting better with time!

Happy OSF!

As always, a big thank you to OSF hostesses, Marvalus at Conversations with Marva and MrsGrapevine.

Please check out the rules for joining and list of other OSF participants here.

  2. I can see that it is going to be hard for me to get any work done this weekend. Thank God, I am not preaching on Sunday. What wonderful picks for a great theme.
