OSF: Divaliciously Yours

with 4 comments

Personally, I am about the farthest thing from a “diva” as anybody I know. If there was a queue, in which someone was passing out divaliciousness to all those waiting in line (while supplies last), I was probably underneath a tree somewhere, reading, and missed my chance to receive even a small portion.

Yet me not being a diva does not stop me from appreciating divas—at least the singing kind. (I can do quite without divas in my personal relationships, thank you.) As far as divas go, I think I have chosen the top ones in pop music genres this week. As divas, they’d hate to be in a list with any others, but hey—I think even these divas would make an exception for the Diva Edition of Old School Friday.

You may notice that not all my divas are women. I do not think biological or genetic femaleness is a requirement, necessarily, of divaness. Just a certain bold attitude and a certain theatricality…a certain over the topness bordering on either side of campiness, a certain larger-than-lifeness, a certain perennial excessiveness.

So…coming to the OSF stage today:

Cher, Patti, and Tina

Elton, Freddie, and Little Richard

Josephine, Sylvester, Diana, Bette and Barbra

and Grace—always Grace.

Be dazzled by their absolute and complete fabulousness. Happy Old School Friday.
